Social Action Committee – This committee works on relevant social action issues impacting our city and its citizens. The committee’s goal is to further stimulate interest in social action while educating chapter members on these issues. Current projects include the following:
The Social Action Committee presented a candidates’ forum for the Mayor of Gary and Council-at-Large seats. As citizens of the community, we needed to take an active interest in voting to ensure that issues were being brought forth and community was educated on the issues. This event was televised on Gary’s cable channel for four weeks leading up to the election.
Gary Alumnae was the first chapter to implement Delta Days at City Hall. We use this venue to voice our issues and concerns to the Mayor, City Council, and other elected officials on issues that impact the community.
Annually, we educate high school seniors and college students concerning the importance of voter registration and absentee ballot registration. Annually, we register high school and college students, as well as senior citizens to vote.
