Economic Development

Economic Committee – The Economic Development Committee helps to increase awareness of our financial fortitude. Current projects include the following:

• Gary Alumnae for the first time this year along with the financial support from our surrounding communities was able to host a “Free Thanksgiving Dinner” on Thanksgiving Day. In total we fed 400 people through this event. The Delta Gems and Delta Academy girls volunteered their time to work as servers throughout the entire day.
• We have participated in the “Support a Black Business Program”.
• We have sponsored “Home Ownership Expos”
• Currently, we are in the process of establishing a 501c3 Foundation

Social Action Committee – The Social Action Committee develops and coordinates Social Action Programs. This committee works on relevant social action issues impacting our city and its citizens. They will further stimulate interest in social action while educating chapter members on these issues. Current projects include the following:

• Donated 40 uniforms to the Gary Community School Corporation
• We have awarded over $24,000 to recipients chosen for the “Bonds for the Best Program”. Gary Community Corporation and Lake Ridge School Corporation’s students in grades 7th through 10th were rewarded $200 savings bonds for performing extraordinary community service work or achieving academic gains while being on the brink of failure. This program is geared to teach students at an early age the importance of savings and reinforcement of self-esteem in our youth.
